Earlier this year, I experienced the heartbreaking loss of someone I knew – a fellow Ellon Academy pupil, graduate of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, and devoted Haddo Kindy mum. After a brave battle with blood cancer, she tragically passed away.

Our lives shared so many parallels, and I couldn’t help but think of the profound grief her parents must be enduring, and how her little boy, who is a similar age to mine, must be struggling to understand what has happened.

Each time I visit Haddo, I’m reminded that she should still be there too. The devastation of Storm Arwen is still visible as I walk around the estate, and one spot in particular, captured my emotions about her passing. She confronted her illness with incredible strength, but, like the storm’s aftermath, the impact on her family is deeply felt – torn apart. I hope this painting resonates with anyone who has lost a child, a parent, or any loved one.

In memory of Lisa, I am partnering with Child Bereavement UK to raise funds and awareness for their crucial work in supporting children, young people, parents, and families as they rebuild their lives after a loss.

50% of this sale will be donated to Child Bereavement UK.
