River of January

£2,500

Oil on canvas

Framed 84x64cm

This painting holds deep personal significance for me. I created it during a profoundly challenging time in my life – before my four children were born, after experiencing my first miscarriage. It was one of many heart-breaking moments in our long and difficult fertility journey.

The landscape seemed to mirror my feelings: frozen, barren, and still. Nothing was growing. Yet, amidst the stillness and sorrow, the sunrise offered a quiet sense of hope. The river, a timeless symbol of fertility and life, continued to flow, reminding me that the story wasn’t over.

Thankfully, my journey eventually took a turn toward joy. When our first daughter was born, we named her Rio, which means “river” – a tribute to the resilience and renewal symbolised in this painting.
