“Collieston” is part of an ongoing series of original paintings inspired by places that hold a particular significance to me, called Collected Places.
Each painting begins with time spent in the landscape — observing the light, atmosphere, colours and details that make that place feel recognisable.
I collect a small amount of seawater from each location and incorporate it into the painting as part of the process. In this way, each piece contains something physically connected to the place it depicts.
The paintings are not intended to be exact records of a landscape. Instead, they are my response to a particular place and the memories, feelings and atmosphere it holds.
