The inspiration for this piece came from looking at images of doorways in paintings by the Spanish painter Antonio Lopez Garcia.\u00a0 Doorways encourage the viewer to ask questions \u2013 where does it go, what is beyond, am I allowed to enter? And if the door is closed, it asks completely different questions.<\/p>\n
At the time of making this painting, I wanted to make a comment on the unjust fact that certain opportunities are only open to specific people, hence why the first door in the painting is open, but the second one is closed.<\/p>\n
The level of detail is evident in the palette and tubes of paint, each individually rendered demonstrating an interesting play on the idea of painting paint.\u00a0 The detail is also apparent in the eyes of the figure with the reflection of the viewer\u2019s silhouette.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
