The inspiration for this piece came from studying images of doorways in the paintings of Spanish artist Antonio López García. Doorways naturally provoke curiosity—inviting questions about what lies beyond, whether one is permitted to enter, and how the closed door shifts these inquiries entirely.
While creating this painting, I aimed to comment on the inequity of opportunities that are often reserved for a select few. This is symbolized by the open first door, contrasting with the closed second door, highlighting the disparity in access.
The painting’s meticulous detail is evident in the palette and tubes of paint, each carefully rendered to play with the concept of painting paint. The precision extends to the eyes of the figure, where the reflection of the viewer’s silhouette further enhances the interactive nature of the artwork.
